Master of Science in Physics (M.Sc.)

Language: English and German, both languages are necessary.
Duration and course type: 2 years (4 semesters), full time

The study program master of science in physics scheduled for two years (4 semesters). In the first year all students are given a deep insight into molecule physics and solid state physics and many-body theory. Obligatory are two seminars, one in experimental physics and one in theoretical physics and the advanced physics lab. In both subjects the students get a close look to state of the art research and in touch with the research groups in the different institutes of the physics department. Beside these obligatory lectures several elective lectures with an advanced focus are offered each year in the fields of:

  • Solid state physics
  • Atom and quantum optic
  • Soft matter physics
  • Advanced statistical physics
  • Advanced continuum physics
  • Computational physics

During the second year (3. and 4. semester), students concentrate on their research project. Whilst working on their project, students are directly involved in the research on a recent topic in either theoretical or experimental physics.
