Perturbation Theory and Quasiparticle Excitations with Tensor Network States

In the last decade it has been realized that tensor network states provide an efficient representation
for the low-energy states of quantum systems in one and two dimensions. In
this talk, I will show two concrete realizations of this general idea. First, I show how perturbation
theory can be reformulated in terms of tensor networks, and how this gives rise to
a new variational method for studying topological phase transitions. Second, I show how
we can describe quasiparticle excitations on top of a strongly-correlated ground state using
tensor networks.
